Getting Started

Objectives:

• The Workshop Leader will prepare for the learning experience by .
  • Preparing handouts for the workshop participants
  • Preparing yourself, by reviewing the hands-on activities
  • Preparing the computer lab or workshop room. This workshop could be conducted in a computer lab or with laptop computers for each participant. Internet access is recommended, although not mandatory.

Activities

1. Prepare printed handouts for all participants. If a CD is purchased for each participant, then the workshop leader has permission to print copies of any handouts that are in the PDFs Folder on the CD. At minimum, it is suggested that the following handouts be copied for the participants. These handouts match the video segments.
   • model5x5.pdf - The one-page overview of my e-portfolio development model that we will be implementing in the workshop. (12K)
   • eportfoliomodel.pdf - A one-page overview of various eportfolio development options (purpose, tools) (12K)
   • FinishedPortfolios.pdf - A handout with an overview of how a CD-ROM-based portfolio can be constructed using tool software plus iMovie (or a video editing program).
     
2. Prepare printed handouts for the hands-on activities for all participants.
   • EPPlanningWorksheet.pdf - A worksheet we will use in the workshop. Please copy on a color other than white. (6 pages - 20K)
   • Macintosh hands-on workshop
     • WordPortfolios-Mac version - A handout on how to use Microsoft Word & Excel for e-portfolio development (10 pages - 428K) (or (pick the most appropriate platform)
     • PPTportfolios.pdf - A handout on how to use PowerPoint for e-portfolio development (7 pages - 732K) (optional)
     • Acrobat Portfolios - Version 5 - A handout on how to use Adobe Acrobat 5.0 for e-portfolio publishing (14 pages - 1.2MB)
     • stepbystep-iMoviestills.pdf - A handout on how to create digital storytelling artifacts in iMovies using only still images (6 pages - 448 MB) (only if using Macintosh computers)
     • stepbystep-iPhoto.pdf - A handout on how to collect, organize and publish image-based e-portfolios using Apple's new iPhoto software (only on Macintosh computers using System 10.1.4 or higher)
   • Windows hands-on workshop
   • WordPortfolios-Windows version - A handout on how to use Microsoft Word & Excel for e-portfolio development (10 pages - 390K)
   • PPTportfolios.pdf - A handout on how to use PowerPoint for e-portfolio development (7 pages - 732K) (optional)
   • Acrobat Portfolios - Version 5 - A handout on how to use Adobe Acrobat 5.0 for e-portfolio publishing (14 pages - 1.2MB)

3. As the workshop leader, review the digital video screen recordings on the CD. These are in the videos folder (Macintosh and Acrobat) or the videosWin folder (Windows and Pinnacle). The participants could use these videos to review the skills covered in the workshop.
   
4. Prepare the room. Do you have a computer projector that you can use to project your computer as well as a VHS videotape? You will want good speakers in the room, as well, connected to the computer and TV or other projection device hooked up to the VCR.
